About this directory

What this directory is

ATX Vet Index is an independent directory and comparison resource for veterinary clinics in Austin, Texas. It lists 160 local vet businesses and is written for Austin pet owners who want to compare clinics using earned ratings rather than advertising spend.

We also generate enquiries for local providers. When you ask to be matched, we pass your enquiry to providers relevant to your request, and we may receive a referral fee. Referral arrangements never affect scores or earned rankings. The quote page repeats this disclosure at the point where you make a request.

Who publishes it

The directory is published by ATX Vet Index. Editorial oversight sits with Dana Whitfield, Managing editor, who maintains the rankings. If you have a question about how a clinic was scored, that is where accountability lies.

How listings get here

Each listing starts with public business information: name, address, contact details, hours and services. We pair that with a synthesis of recent Google reviews, summarised into a sentiment reading for the clinic.

  • We do not republish review text. You will see our summary, not copied reviews.
  • We link out to Google so you can read the original reviews yourself.
  • Listings are built from verified sources, not from self-submitted marketing copy.

How rankings are earned

Rankings come from a published rubric applied to data, and nothing else. The full scoring criteria are set out on the methodology page, so you can see what counts and check a clinic’s position against it.

We do not sell placement. The earned ranking is purely earned: no clinic can pay to move up, and no clinic can pay to have a score changed.

How sponsorship works

Where sponsorship is present, it is clearly labelled “Sponsored” and shown separately from the earned listings. A sponsored unit never changes the earned ranking, the score, or the sentiment summary of any clinic, whether sponsoring or not.

What listed businesses can and cannot change

A listed clinic can correct its own facts, such as a wrong phone number, a changed address or new opening hours. It can never edit its own score, sentiment or ranking. Those come from the rubric and the data, and the clinic has no control over them.

Keeping information current

Data is refreshed monthly. Each listing carries a “last verified” stamp, so you can see when its details were last checked and judge for yourself whether the page is being actively maintained.

Using the directory well

Treat the rankings as a starting point. Check a clinic’s current hours and services directly with them, read the Google reviews we link to, and call before you visit, especially for urgent care.

FAQ

Can a vet clinic pay to rank higher?
No. We do not sell placement. Rankings are earned from a published rubric and data only. Any sponsored unit is labelled "Sponsored", shown separately, and never changes the earned ranking.
Do you copy Google reviews onto the site?
No. We synthesise recent Google reviews into a summary and link out to Google, so you can read the original reviews there.
Can a clinic edit its own listing?
A clinic can correct its own facts, such as address, phone or hours. It cannot edit its score, sentiment or ranking.
Do you earn money from enquiries?
Yes, possibly. When you ask to be matched, we pass your enquiry to providers relevant to your request and may receive a referral fee. This never affects scores or earned rankings.
How often is the data updated?
Monthly. Each listing shows a "last verified" stamp so you can see when it was last checked.
