From 24-hour emergency rooms to house-call vets and exotic and avian specialists.
All recent reviews describe smooth, reassuring visits with clear diagnostic communication. Named vets Dr. Pouliot and Dr. Meier handle both echocardiograms and cardiology evaluations with skill and compassion, leaving owners with detailed treatment plans and confidence about their pet's heart condition.
CityVet South Austin earns consistent five-star praise for treating anxious and senior dogs with extraordinary gentleness, especially under Dr. VanDyke's care. Reviewers highlight the team's willingness to sit with nervous pets, handle end-of-life appointments with dignity, and communicate via text about medication adjustments without judgment about cost. The clinic's integration of grooming with medical oversight-a real asset for high-risk seniors-and its responsive emergency scheduling set it apart. Staff like Val and Matthew build lasting rapport with repeat clients. One reviewer who found a stray kitten four months prior called the follow-up care "super responsive and 10/10," signaling reliability across different species and life stages.
Reviewers have stuck with Travis Country for decades because staff treat both pets and owners with genuine care. Multiple clients report same-day appointments, gentle handling of older and anxious animals, and clear explanations that build confidence in the care provided. The practice draws consistent praise for balancing thorough diagnostics and surgery with accessible pricing, backed by staff who smile through pedicures and celebrate their patients' 17th birthdays.
Long-term clients and first-time walk-ins report the same experience: vets and staff who listen without rushing, answer questions thoroughly, and treat each pet as an individual rather than a line item. Dr. Jessica Morrissey, Dr. Rivera, and Dr. Rudnick are named repeatedly for patience and knowledge. The clinic offers dental, surgery, vaccinations, boarding, daycare, grooming, and emergency care; they specialize in international health certificates and handle anxious pets well. Recent reviews are entirely four or five star.
All 16 recent reviews gave 5 stars. Reviewers consistently praise the vets for explaining treatment options clearly and avoiding unnecessary upsells. Staff go out of their way for anxious pets, and the surgery team handled a critical spleen rupture with speed and care, including detailed aftercare. The practice opened in 2016 and serves the Austin area. Their website lists general wellness, dentistry, dermatology, cardiology, oncology, and urgent care alongside holistic and end-of-life services. Named vets appear across reviews (Dr. Pelaez, Dr. Kmietsch, Dr. Singleton, and others). A long-term client noted Southwest had cared for their dogs over 20 years. One reviewer highlighted staff member Cheyenne for exceptional service.
Every recent visit scores five stars, with Dr. Rivas emerging as a standout who listens carefully, explains treatment plainly, and avoids upselling. Staff call after appointments to check on pets, which reviewers consistently mention as a meaningful touch. Technicians like Haley and Irene are named for their gentleness with anxious cats. The hospital runs insurance during the visit, quotes costs upfront, and maintains a dedicated cat room. Fair pricing and responsive care have made this a trusted spot for preventative checkups, emergency eye issues, and puppy shots across Old West Austin neighborhoods.

ATX Vet Index sells no placement. Scores come from published review data and public business information, so a clinic's position is earned.
Listings are rebuilt from verified sources every month, and each listing carries a last verified stamp so you can see it is being maintained.
